A Grand Winter Wedding in York
A Grand Winter Wedding in York
Where? The historic walled city of York in North Yorkshire, England.
Exactly? I stayed at The Grand Hotel, York.
When? One crisp, autumn weekend when the city was cold but filled with sunlight, the perfect setting for a winter wedding.
Why? I was very lucky to be invited to the wedding celebrations of one of my old university, best buddies, Fiona and her lovely husband, Dan. Both Fi and Dan love retro, quirky styles, they are one of the coolest couples I know! So as expected the wedding was filled with vintage inspired decorations and crafty details, even the brides bouquet was beautifully hand made out of paper, by Fi herself.
It was a wonderful day filled with love, fun and lot’s of dancing! Here’s The Style Traveller photo diary of Fi and Dan’s winter wedding….
Fi and Dan steal a moment for a quick pic in the historical York ruins. Thanks to wedding photographer Joel Smith for letting me use his gorgeous photos of the happy couple.

Where I stayed?
I stayed at The Grand Hotel, York over the wedding weekend. The only 5* star hotel in York, housed in the elegantly renovated former headquarters of the North Eastern Railway Company and famed for it’s spa and afternoon tea.

The warm and cosy bar at The Grand, with roaring fires and traditional yet colourful interiors.
The decadent bath tubs in the hotels suites, the perfect place to get ready before the wedding. Below: Xmas at The Grand Hotel.
What to wear to a Winter Wedding
Setting off to the wedding venue. For the daytime celebrations I wore a navy and mirror encrusted David Koma dress from his AW16 collection. Accessorised with my trusty YSL silver clutch, metallic (Ziggy Stardust inspired) metallic, ankle boots from Miss Selfridge and navy shearling coat from Pure Collection.

Back to the old school, or uni rather. Litz, Fi and I, get a reunion close up after the ceremony.
Let’s party!!!! After the wedding breakfast we were transported over to the De Grey Rooms in town for dinner and dancing.
The evening outfit: Blush pink dress, faux fur jacket, and silver boots all from Miss Selfridge.
The morning after!
Breakfast at The Grand, the perfect cure for a post wedding hang over.
Nothing sorts out a hangover like a swim and a steam at The Grand spa.
And then I was ready for a top up and re-fueling at The Grand Hotel’s celebrated afternoon tea, boasting a delicious array of sandwiches, delicate pastries, cakes and scones, served with champagne, Hendrix gin or selection of teas. Yum!
And so to bed. Thank you Fi and Dan for letting me be part of your incredible wedding celebration. I wish you both all the luck and happiness in the world! You gorgeous couple you!!! Lots of love, B xx
