Where? Scotland, UK
Exactly? The beautiful Turnberry Hotel, nearest Airport Glasgow.
When? November 2018.
Best time to go? Scotland has a cold climate all year round, so normally it’s best to visit during the summer months. We however visited in November and had some wonderful crisp, sunny morning beach walks and cosy nights in by the fire. The weather is changeable so make sure you take your waterproofs and plenty of warm layers.

Having been awarded numerous travel industry accolades from Scottish Hotel of the Year 2018, to being voted in the top 20 best golf courses in the world, The Turnberry hotel in my opinion also has one of the most picturesque locations.
Set on the rugged coastline of Western Scotland, the hotel commands epic views across the Irish Sea and beyond. Perhaps the most iconic part of the view is the legendary lighthouse.
The site of the hotel is steeped in heritage and history, being the original ancient site of Robert the Bruce’s castle. Parts of the castle walls and ruins still stand on the shores next to the famous light house, which was built centuries later.
The decor is a decadent yet elegant mix of quintessentially British style, filled with extravagant chandeliers, mahogany panelled walls, roaring fireplaces and the signature huge floor to ceiling windows. They fill the hotel with natural light, giving it a much brighter and airy atmosphere than you would expect in an old building of the Edwardian period.
The hotel even has its own house tartan in soft grey and blue, to mimic the surrounding stone, sea and sky. The hotels colour palette matches these tones with the addition of white walls and gold detailing, creating a very serene and peaceful environment.
Pictured above, my room was so huge it’s the equivalent size of a whole central London flat.
The iconic light has a small snack bar downstairs for golfers and hikers, the remainder of the building has been converted into a beautiful two double bedroom hotel suite.
With a choice of six excellent food offerings at the hotel, one thing is for sure here, you won’t go hungry. From the epic buffet and a la carte breakfast first thing, through to the sizeable, pub style lunch at The Duel in the Sun, fine dining at the 1906 restaurant, to the hotels marvellous Chefs Table, you’re more than spoilt for choice.

Chef’s table is a really fun eating experience at the hotel. With a ring side view in the heart of the hotel, guests are invited to dine in the kitchen, whilst watching the theatrical production of dinner being made right in front of your table.
You even get to dress up as a chef and help to prepare one of the courses (pictured above). It was such fun, very entertaining and informative, under the excellent hosting skills of the very lovely (and chatty) sommelier.
Fresh seafood is the house special at The Turnberry. Pictured above, fine dining at 1906, the langoustines main course and below a delicious pub-style fish and chips platter at The Duel in the Sun.
Ah the spa! Quite possibly my favourite part of every trip and the spa at the Turnberry did not disappoint. With a lovely huge lap pool, indulgent treatments and scenic views, it’s the perfect way to unwind. I tried out the signature half-hour massage, followed by half-hour facial, it was blissful.
From horse riding, hiking, tennis, clay shooting, gym, golf, to the fantastic spa on site there are lots of activities to keep you busy and help you to shed some of the pounds you’ve gained from eating so much on your trip :)
The Turnberry course has been voted the “best golf course in Scotland’ and also in the “top 20 courses in the world’ by Golf Magazine, so it needs no more introduction.
We were very lucky to have one of the pro-golfers take us on a beginners session so we could perfect our swing. We also went on a walk to take in the breathtaking beauty of the light house and landscape of one the most beautiful courses in the world. Turns out I’m not too bad either. I’d definietly recommend a practice session.
Sunset at Turnberry me and the girls head out on a hike.
That’s all from Scotland for now, for more information on the Turnberry Hotel click here.
Good bye Scotland, next stop Dubai.
Bon voyage xx
