Nestled amidst the serene countryside of Sussex, England, lies a haven of luxury and relaxation called South Lodge Hotel and Spa. Steeped in history and surrounded by lush landscapes, this enchanting retreat offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Join me on a journey as we explore the rich history, indulgent spa facilities, exquisite dining experiences, and the rejuvenating practice of forest bathing that await at this idyllic destination.
Dating back to the 19th century, South Lodge Hotel and Spa boasts a fascinating history. Originally built as a family home, the property has undergone several transformations over the years. Finally evolving into the elegant retreat it is today.
Despite its modern amenities and luxurious accommodations, the hotel has retained much of its original charm, with period features and architectural splendor that harken back to a bygone era.
Situated on 93 acres of breathtaking parkland, South Lodge Hotel and Spa offers a tranquil escape from the outside world. It’s surrounded by rolling hills and verdant forests.
The hotel provides the perfect backdrop for relaxation and rejuvenation. Weather strolling through the manicured gardens or unwinding on the terrace overlooking the South Downs. I was enveloped in a sense of serenity from the moment I arrived.
In addition to its luxurious amenities, South Lodge Hotel and Spa offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature through the ancient Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, otherwise known as forest bathing.
Guided by expert therapist, Helena Skoog, guests can book onto a Nature Immersion retreat. The tranquility of the surrounding woodlands is magical, the perfect location for Shinrin-Yoku.
From gentle walks through the forest to meditation sessions amidst the trees, forest bathing provides a profound sense of rejuvenation and inner peace. The next two Nature Immersion retreats start on Saturday 15th June 2024 followed by the Autumn retreat on Saturday 19th October 2024.
The heart of relaxation at South Lodge lies within its luxurious spa. From soothing massages to invigorating facials. The spa offers a range of treatments designed to pamper the body and soul.
I loved indulging in the heated indoor and wild outdoor pool. The sauna (pictured above), steam room and wellness circuit is beautifully designed and state of the art. With expert therapists and serene surroundings, the spa provides a sanctuary for holistic rejuvenation.
Each of the hotel’s 89 rooms and suites is elegantly appointed, blending contemporary comfort with classic charm. Featuring sumptuous furnishings, plush bedding, and modern amenities, every room is individually designed to ensure a restful stay.
Our room had huge bay windows which looked out over looked the spectacular gardens. I loved waking up and sitting by the window, with my morning cup of tea.
Whether overlooking the picturesque countryside or the tranquil gardens, guests are treated to unparalleled luxury and tranquility throughout their visit.
At South Lodge Hotel and Spa, dining is an experience to savor. It has two acclaimed restaurants offering seasonal menus crafted from locally sourced ingredients.
From fine dining at The Pass, where guests can watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen, to relaxed brasserie-style fare at The Camellia, there is something to suit every palate.
In conclusion, South Lodge Hotel and Spa offers a retreat like no other, where history, luxury, and nature converge to create an unforgettable experience.
Whether you’re seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, or simply a moment of tranquility, you are sure to find it amidst the idyllic surroundings of this enchanting destination. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the serenity and relaxed atmosphere.
