Staying at The Best Hotel in the World – Capella Bangkok

‘Capella’ means the brightest star in the constellation. I can’t think of a more appropriate name for this stellar hotel. Keep reading to find out what it’s really like, Staying at The Best Hotel in the World!

Capella Bangkok has been voted number 1 in the World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024. It has also received numerous awards from Conde Nast Traveller, Forbes, Travel and Leisure and many more. Including best city hotel and best spa in Bangkok.

I was lucky enough to be invited for a 3 night stay. Here’s why I think it deserves its incredible accolades.

Location

Nestled on the peaceful banks of the Chao Priya River in Bangkok, the Cappella is located in Bangkok’s most exclusive (and expensive) area. The light filled suites and villas all command breathtaking views across the river and Bangkok skyline.

You can easily access Bangkok’s main tourist attractions, shopping streets and restaurants by road, and also by the hotels luxury yacht shuttle. It sails to Icon siam Mall and the nearest BTS skytrain station.

I loved the yacht so much I actually just went for a sunset sail one evening, just to take in the views.

The Hotel

Being crowned the world’s best hotel is no easy task. This aesthetically beautiful hotel is all about the service and impeccable attention to detail.

All the staff at the hotel know your name and greet you when you see them. They are so intuitive, so experienced in hospitality, they often second guess your every need.

The hotels feng shui design, zen music, mood lighting, artwork and floral installations, are all expertly curated to promote wellbeing. There’s a beautiful atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.

The Rooms

The suites and villas all designed with the upmost sophistication. The subtle colour palette is neutral and elegant. All rooms are extremely spacious, filled with light, have outdoor space, and are intelligently designed to make the most of the space.

They of course come with all state-of-the-art amenities, rain shower, enormous surround sound wide screen TVs, blue tooth speaker, retro chic coffee machines, fully stocked artisan cocktail station and the most luxurious mini bar and snacks I’ve ever seen. I also loved that the welcome drinks included champagne and cocktails, as well as a hotel branded, rehydrating fresh coconut water, still in its shell.

The rooms are controlled by a centralised ipad, which closes the curtains, heats or cools the room. You can also speak to reception, concierge and order room service on it.

I loved the attention to detail. When my room was tidied, the wire chargers were nearly tied up with leather, hotel branded, cable ties. Likewise, sunglasses left on the side were polished and placed on a soft, branded, cleaning cloth.

Everything you need, from manicure kits, hotel signature scented products, luxury slippers, silk and towelling gowns are all provided. Literally you can arrive with no amenities and still have everything you need.

I loved that each guest receives 5 items of clothing pressed on arrival. Also, for days when you don’t want to step out of the room, the privacy closet is a two way cupboard, where room service can place a coffee or food in a cubby hole, ring the door bell and the guest can just collect the item from the cupboard without interacting with anyone.

It’s basically the perfect room. I can’t think of a single thing that was missing. Literally every detail was covered.

Bar food at the Stellar Bar

Food and Drink

As you’d expect, staying at the Best Hotel in The World, the food and beverage offering is outstanding.

Most of the fresh ingredients used in both the Chao Priya restaurant and the Côte by Mauro Colagreco, Michelin starred restaurant, are grown in the hotel’s kitchen garden. You can even have a mindful tour of the hotel gardens and meet the chefs.

Côte by Mauro Colagreco

Mauro Colagreco is an Argentinian chef who has been awarded three Michelin stars. His ‘Riviera to River’ concept blends local Thai produce with traditional Mediterranean recipes.

The Stellar bar is a decadent 1930s art deco experience. The glass and mirrored boudoir interior is adorned with hand painted silk wallpaper and resplendent seating areas fit for the king of Siam. A magical, white taxidermy peacock forms the centre piece for this truly splendid room.

The best cocktails in Bangkok are accompanied by delicious bar snacks, which include oysters, excellent sushi and popcorn chicken. The singers sound like they already have recording contracts. It’s the most fabulous evening out.

Afternoon Tea

The Capella’s afternoon tea is something of a legend in Bangkok. Featuring an artisan selection of teas from Mariage Freres in Paris, paired with an elegant array of pastries, savoury delights and classic home-made scones.

Enjoy with a view of the ornamental water gardens with lily pads and stunning views of the river beyond.

The Pool

When you arrive at the riverside pool and the butlers immediately bring over chic soft towels, chilled or iced water in a crystal poolside glass, fruit snacks and sunscreen. Perfect service.

The Spa

The spa at the Capella has been awarded the best spa in Bangkok award by travel and leisure magazine, which I think pretty much sums up how good the level of service and quality of the treatments are. Add to that the most beautifully designed spa circuit and wellness rooms and gardens. It’s simply heavenly.

Cin Cin Hour

At 5pm every day all hotel guests are invited to Cin Cin hour where you can indulge in complimentary cocktails and snacks before heading up to the room to get ready for dinner.

Staying at The Best Hotel in the World!

In summation I can totally see why the Capella Bangkok has been voted the best hotel in the world 2024. It is truly outstanding. What you realise when you stay here is that it’s not showy, or loud, it’s all about understated luxury, wellness, real, authentic, intuitive service and attention to detail. To truly understand why this hotel is great, you have to stay here and experience it.
