Amilla Maldives – Chic Celebrity Sanctuary

Amilla Maldives – Chic Celebrity Sanctuary

Nestled within the cerulean waters of the Indian Ocean lies a sanctuary of luxury and tranquility – the Amilla Maldives resort. As the seaplane gracefully touched down on the crystal-clear lagoon, I was instantly captivated by the ethereal beauty of this island. I had arrived in paradise.

This was my second trip to the magical island. The first time I visited was 5 years ago and it was one of the best hotels I’d ever stayed in at the time. I was interested to see if it was still as flawless this time around.

Amilla Location

Located in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, Amilla Maldives is a jewel amidst the Maldives archipelago.

Baa Atoll is renowned for its vibrant marine life and pristine coral reefs, making it a haven for divers and nature enthusiasts alike.

I’ve stayed in many Maldivian resorts in the past and Amilla’s coral reef is one of the best I’ve experienced.

About Amilla Maldives

Opened in 2014, Amilla was one of the first Independent Maldivian owned 5-star resorts. It holds a special place in my heart because its Maldivian hospitality truly shines through. It’s not corporate like many of the other surrounding ‘big brand’ resorts. It’s small, chic and elegant. And the service is immaculate yet personal.

Built with a vision to redefine luxury hospitality in the Maldives, Amilla seamlessly blends contemporary elegance with authentic charm. Its architecture pays homage to traditional Maldivian design. Meanwhile its commitment to sustainability ensures minimal impact on the delicate ecosystem of the region. They have several eco and sustainable initiatives in action on the island which they are keen to show guests around.

Amilla Accommodation

The resort offers an array of incredibly luxurious accommodations, each designed to provide the utmost comfort and privacy to guests. From overwater villas with panoramic ocean views to beachfront residences enveloped by lush tropical gardens, there is a perfect retreat for everyone.

The spacious villas feature all luxury amenities, personal butlers on stand by, indoor and outdoor showers, built in speakers, designer beauty products, monogrammed gowns, slippers and flip flops to private pools with direct access to the azure waters of the lagoon. Add to that the beautifully considered design, the interiors are truly fabulous.

Amilla Room types

I was lucky enough to get to stay in all the room types: a Lagoon Water Villa, a Tree Top House as well as a Beach House. I must admit, each one was incredible and has its own stand out points.

All of the rooms are incredibly well designed, focusing on luxury interiors, as well as being fully practical and easy to use. Everything you might need during your stay, right down to toothbrush, cocktail making sets, chic beach bags, huge mini bar station, extra beach towels, sun tan lotion, designer toiletries and even insect repellent (which I didn’t need at all).

The classic water villa is what many tourists visit the Maldives for. There is nothing more magical than sitting out on the private pool terrace and seeing only a sea of blues stretch out to infinity in front you.

The beach villas are akin to something from MTV cribs. They are enormous and insanely lavish with private pools and direct beach access.

The tree houses are for nature lovers, set back within the secluded jungle area. It’s like living high up in the tree tops. You do need to be fit in order to climb the steps to the tree houses.

All are as luxurious as each other and I’d happily stay in all of them, all over again. For me personally, as blue is my favourite colour, nothing beats waking up to a sea view of turquoise from a water villa.

Amilla Dining

Culinary delights await at Amilla Maldives, where guests can embark on a gastronomic journey through a variety of elegant dining venues. I must say that the food at Amilla is incredible. There are ten dining options to choose from. This is fantastic if you’re staying for a week, it means you won’t get bored of the food, which can happen on some islands.

Choose from an epic breakfast buffet at Fresh, Asian food at East, Italian fine dining at Barolo, Joe’s Pizza, Fresh fish BBQ lunches at Emperors Beach Club, deli style sandwiches and light bites at the Chill’d Cafe through to Nobu style Japanese fine dining at the extremely refined, Feeling Koi restaurant at the end of the jetty. And lets not forget the fantastic room service and several bars around the island.

Whichever restaurant you choose you’ll be in for a fantastic treat. Each place has its own individual chefs and the ingredients come mainly from the on-island organic farm gardens or direct from the Maldivian seas.

Amilla has the best food I’ve ever had at any of the numerous islands and resorts I’ve stayed at.

Amilla Activities

From thrilling water sports to rejuvenating spa experiences, Amilla Maldives offers a myriad of fantastic activities to choose from.

Dive into the crystal-clear waters to discover vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life. Or embark on a sunset cruise to witness the breathtaking beauty of the Maldivian sunset.

We did the dolphin cruise on our first day and we saw at least 20 dolphins! It was one of the most magical experiences I’ve ever been on.

The snorkelling at Amilla is fantastic too. The house reef is excellent and they also do daily trips to surrounding local reefs and blue holes, just if you fancy a change of scenery.

For those seeking relaxation, indulge in a pampering spa treatment inspired by ancient healing traditions. The massage is one of the best I’ve ever had! There’s also daily yoga’s stretch and fitness classes at the indoor or outdoor gyms.

Or simply unwind on the pristine beaches with a refreshing cocktail in hand. Which you can make yourself at the cocktails (or kombucha) making classes!!

Amilla Experiences

While staying on the island, in order to make your trip even more special, the butlers and concierge team can organise some magical experiences for you.

From sunset romantic beach dinners, Maldivian cooking classes, foraging sessions, bird and wildlife watching, cycling tours, fishing trips, photoshoots and art classes, there’s literally no time to be bored.

I booked in for the floating breakfast, (pictured above) which we had in our private pool, it was such a beautiful and instagram friendly experience.

The allure of Amilla Maldives extends beyond its breathtaking scenery and luxurious amenities. It also attracts a host of celebrities seeking seclusion and serenity on this island paradise.

With its discreet and exclusive ambiance, the resort has been a favourite destination for high-profile personalities from across the world. From Hollywood A-listers escaping the paparazzi to renowned athletes and musicians. The Amilla has welcomed an array of celebrities who appreciate its unparalleled privacy and five-star service.

While the resort respects the privacy of its guests, occasional sightings of famous faces enjoying the island’s beauty only add to its allure. Making it a coveted destination among the global elite.

The hotel didn’t divulge this information to me, but when I googled, I found out that the likes of Leonardo di Caprio, Katie Perry and Orlando Bloom are just some of the Hollywood a-list that have stayed here.
