I was invited out to Hammock Cove in July to experience how wonderful a quieter, off peak trip to the resort can be. This was part of a press trip.

Why Stay at Hammock Cove?

There are few places that instantly make you feel relaxed and calm as soon as you arrive. Where you leave your worries at the door and immerse yourself in being present. For me Hammock Cove is one of them. From the moment I stepped into the main house, the kind staff greeted us with refreshing drinks and hot towels.

They then whisked us away in a buggy to our own luxury private pool villa for check in and to settle in to our new home for the week. Every step was so personal and exactly how you wish to be treated after a long haul flight.

Perched on Antigua’s rugged northeast coastline, this adults-only, all-inclusive resort feels worlds away from the large Caribbean resorts many people imagine. Instead, you’ll find private pool villas, exceptional dining, beautifully landscaped gardens and an atmosphere that’s quietly luxurious from the moment you arrive.

I visited in July, deliberately choosing Antigua’s quieter season to see whether travelling outside the winter months was worthwhile. What I discovered was one of the best luxury travel decisions I’ve made. Hotel rates are noticeably lower than during peak season. The island feels wonderfully peaceful, and despite everyone assuming the Caribbean is only for winter sun. The weather was glorious throughout my stay.

If you’re looking for a sophisticated Caribbean escape that feels intimate rather than overwhelming, Hammock Cove is perfect for you.

The Location

Hammock Cove sits on Antigua’s beautiful northeast coast, neighbouring one of the island’s most famous natural landmarks, Devil’s Bridge.

Formed over thousands of years by the relentless force of the Atlantic Ocean, Devil’s Bridge is a natural limestone arch where crashing waves create one of the most dramatic coastal scenes on the island. It’s well worth visiting during your stay and is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

The setting feels wonderfully secluded. You’re perfectly placed to explore this quieter side of Antigua while enjoying uninterrupted ocean views.

The hotel is only a 35 minute drive from Antigua Airport and the capital. So even though it feels secluded, it’s actually a great location from which to explore the rest of the island.

Private Pool Villas at Hammock Cove

Every room type at Hammock Cove is a spacious private villa with its own plunge pool overlooking the sea.

Inside, the villas are beautifully designed with a calming palette of natural woods and soft seaside tones. Mimicking the beautiful Caribbean environment outside. I loved waking every morning, opening the doors and seeing nothing but my private pool and the Caribbean sea beyond.

The villas include:

• A private plunge pool
• Fully stocked all-inclusive minibar with high end alcohol brands and soft drinks
• Separate his and hers sinks
• Double rainfall showers
• Large walk-in wardrobe room
• International television channels including movie and news channels
• Spacious indoor and outdoor living areas ( I spent most of my time on the terrace)
• Business and study area, great wifi
• 24 hour room service inclusive in the price

They genuinely feel more like a private luxury residence than a hotel room.

Facilities & Experiences at Hammock Cove

One of the things I enjoyed most was how easy it was to be as active—or as relaxed—as I wanted.

The resort offers complimentary paddleboards, kayaks and catamaran sailing, making it easy to spend time out on the water. And as well as your private pool, there’s also the main shared pool which cascades over three levels.

They also organised a fun packed Calypso cruise for me and other guests. It was a great way to experience Antigua from the sea.

The Calypso Boat trip was so much fun. My highlights included visiting the film location from Pirates of the Caribbean and lunch on a deserted island. But the best part was snorkelling with the turtles. We spotted two turtles and lots of sting rays.

When I wasn’t by the pool, I enjoyed a massage in the spa. Followed by an hour relaxing beside the tranquil spa waterfall pool afterwards. It was exactly the sort of slow afternoon that reminds you why holidays should never be rushed.

The Food at Hammock Cove

The dining at Hammock Cove deserves a section of its own because it was genuinely exceptional.

Lunch is often served as a relaxed beach barbecue, but throughout the week the hotel also hosts special culinary events. These include Caviar Day, Oyster Day and Seafood Barbecues, that are all inclusive.

On seafood day I was served the largest lobster I’ve ever eaten—and, like everything else here, it was included. Photo above.

For dinner, there are several excellent restaurants to choose from.

Sir Rob’s became a favourite for perfectly cooked steaks and generous à la carte breakfasts. You have to try the seafood chowder and Sir Rob’s apple pie is the best I’ve ever eaten.

The Lighthouse Restaurant offers an elegant fine dining experience in beautiful surroundings. Some nights they host an exceptional 7-course tasting menu.

Monday evenings are dedicated to sushi and live jazz, which was one of the highlights of my stay. Freshly prepared sushi keeps arriving for as long as you would like it. All accompanied by live music and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

For lighter meals or evenings when you don’t feel like dressing up, Irina’s Bistro is a great option. It serves pizzas, salads and more casual dishes throughout the day.

The quality of the food consistently exceeded my expectations and is undoubtedly one of Hammock Cove’s biggest strengths.

My Thoughts

What stayed with me most about Hammock Cove wasn’t just the luxury—it was the feeling of complete calm.

The staff are genuinely warm, welcoming and attentive without ever feeling intrusive. Every interaction felt personal, making the whole experience effortlessly relaxing.

The hotel itself has a timeless, understated elegance. It’s beautifully maintained, full of charming Caribbean character and surrounded by lush tropical gardens filled with wildlife. One of the highlights each morning was watching the resident birds wandering through the gardens. In particular a striking, orange-crested bird that became a regular visitor outside our villa.

Days naturally settled into a wonderfully slow rhythm. Morning gym, slow breakfast, reading beside the pool, swimming in the sea, heading out on paddleboards. Then lingering over long lunches and ending with sunset cocktails before dinner.

Waking up every morning to the sound of the ocean beyond our private pool is a memory I’ll never forget.
